Netflix "The American Meme"

// services
Creative Producer
The American Meme 3D scanning project involved leading 3D photogrammetry production for Netflix's documentary about fame and social media culture. Paris Hilton came in to be digitally scanned as part of the documentary's exploration of identity and self-image in the digital age. Working with the Blue Vishnu team, production logistics, on-set coordination, and technical delivery were managed across photogrammetry, texture capture, and post-production handoff. The scanning process itself became part of the documentary's narrative, examining how celebrities interact with technology to create and control their digital presence.
Technical Production & Photogrammetry Capture
The project utilized a multi-camera capture array to produce detailed digital doubles and texture maps of Paris Hilton, requiring precise coordination between photography equipment, lighting setup, and subject direction. On-set production management ensured efficient capture sessions that balanced technical requirements with the documentary filming process and talent comfort. The photogrammetry process involved capturing hundreds of high-resolution images from multiple angles to create accurate 3D geometry and photorealistic texture data. This technical approach created virtual assets that documented Paris Hilton's participation in emerging technologies that allow public figures to preserve and control their digital likeness.
Post-Production Coordination & Asset Delivery
Post-production handoff involved coordinating between Blue Vishnu's technical team and Netflix's creative departments to ensure digital assets were properly integrated into the documentary narrative. The deliverables included processed 3D models, high-resolution texture maps, and technical documentation. Quality control processes ensured that the digital double maintained accurate proportions, skin texture detail, and material properties. The scanning sequence became a key moment in the documentary, illustrating how celebrities embrace technology to curate their image and extend their presence into virtual spaces.
Impact & Industry Context
This work represented an early intersection of documentary filmmaking and digital identity capture—bridging physical presence with virtual representation and exploring how celebrity and self-image could be preserved through immersive media. The American Meme examined themes of fame, social media influence, and personal branding in the digital era, making Paris Hilton's decision to be scanned particularly resonant with the documentary's subject matter. The project demonstrated how 3D capture could serve narrative purposes, documenting a cultural moment when public figures began actively participating in technologies that would shape how identity and fame function in increasingly digital environments.
