This collaboration with AFRJ, a nonprofit dedicated to ending human trafficking, created an interactive Virtual Reality educational tool aimed at raising awareness among teens. The project sat at the intersection of creative technology, social impact, and education, combining immersive storytelling, community engagement, and advocacy to help young audiences recognize the signs of human trafficking and learn how to take action. Beginning under the Girl in VR banner, the initiative addressed two primary barriers in anti-trafficking work identified by AFRJ: fragmentation among organizations in the field and lack of public understanding or engagement. The VR project's goal was to "bridge awareness and action"—teaching teens what human trafficking looks like in everyday environments and connecting them to local resources.
Creative & Technical Development
Serving as Creative Director, the project delivered an immersive VR experience built in Unreal Engine, designed as a virtual coffee shop environment where users interacted with stories and data about trafficking in their own communities. The experience featured an interactive globe interface that allowed users to explore trafficking realities across different parts of the world, viewing mission videos, statistics, and localized stories from AFRJ's database. Technical production was led by Andrew Schwartz and Dylan Harris, with partnership support from Deloitte for technology consultation and event strategy. A full production timeline mapped milestones including locking creative direction, delivering storyboards, building environments, and finalizing interactive assets.
Public Activation & Installation (Night on Broadway)
A large-scale interactive public sculpture was installed in Downtown LA as part of the Night on Broadway event to attract on-site participants and draw attention to the cause. Team Computer produced a live activation combining the VR booth, public art installation, and on-site awareness campaign, coordinated with the Vibiana venue and local creative partners including Ladies First and Upload LA. The event reached thousands of attendees during the Night on Broadway activation, delivering one of the first VR awareness experiences on human trafficking built by a creative agency in collaboration with a national nonprofit
Impact & Legacy
This collaboration marked the first major social-impact project under the Girl in VR initiative, laying the foundation for later partnerships in civic, ethical, and educational immersive experiences. The project demonstrated how immersive storytelling could increase empathy and mobilize public engagement around difficult social issues, proving the viability of VR as a tool for nonprofit advocacy and youth education. The AFRJ case study became a cornerstone example in the Girl in VR business plan and subsequent Team Computer proposals, illustrating how technology could be deployed for social good while maintaining artistic integrity and community-centered design principles.
